A Friend Who Sticks Closer Than A Brother
It is 16th December, Wednesday 2020, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for the day!
If we go to the Old Testament, to the Book of Proverbs, Chapter 18 and verse 24:
“But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
Oh the Bible! The Bible is indeed a friend to me that sticks closer than any brother!
You will never see a photograph of me without me holding a Bible.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John Chapter 1 and verse 1.
A true friend sticks by you like family.
I always remember going to visit a Muslim family and I was ushered into this lovely lounge. I sat on a beautiful chair with a lovely carpet.
I took my Bible with me of course, and I put my Bible on the carpet while this kind gentleman was making me something to drink.
He walked in and he said, “Please Sir, don’t put that book on the floor. Put it on the coffee table.” That was a Muslim.
The Word of God never returns void.
If we look at the Book of Matthew, Chapter 5, and verse 18, the Word says:
“ For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.”
That means not one dot and not one stroke.
You and I really need to take the Bible seriously in these times in which we are living, because it will comfort you, it will direct you.
You know, some people say to me, “Where is this Jesus you are always talking about Angus?” And then I will give them a Bible, and I say, “This is Jesus Christ in print.”
All the answers are in that book. Everything!
When people write to me for counsel, I reply with the Word of God. There is nothing else that is more sustainable in this time than God’s precious Word.
And there are people who I want to esteem today, and they are the Bible translators.
They sit in the jungle, they sit in a foreign land, and they spend their life translating the Bible into the local language.
Nobody knows about them, but I want you to know, I esteem them greatly, because they know the importance of the written Word of God.
A man by the name of William Cameron Townsend said, “The greatest missionary is the Bible in the mother tongue. It needs no furlough (no holiday) and is never considered a foreigner.”
We believe that the Bible needs to be in every single language on earth because it is the Bible that sets you free.
It is the Bible that keeps you going, and I want to encourage you today.
Spend time in the Word of God because He is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Have a wonderful day as you read the Word of God and share it with those who don’t have a Bible to read.
