How Big Is God?

It is Tuesday, 15th December 2020, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for the day.

If we go to the Book of Judges, Judges Chapter 7 and one verse, verse 7:

“Then the Lord said to Gideon, “By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, every man to his place.”

Well, Gideon had 32,000 fighting men ready for action but The Lord whittled them down to a mere 300 men. 300! That’s all.

And the Bible says, if you read on, that the enemy was so numerous that they looked like a plague of locusts on the ground. There were so many, they were like the grains of sand on the seashore. Wow! How is that for a challenge?

Well, we have a saying at Shalom. It goes like this: “You must attempt something so big that if it is not of God, it is doomed to fail.”

“Why?” you might ask. Because when it works, God gets all the glory because people will say, “No man could have ever done that. It must have been the Hand of God.”

God is not interested in our efforts.

He wants us to trust Him by raw faith alone.

You might be saying today, “Well, Angus, I am too old now.”

No, you are not. You are not over 85 years old, are you?

Well, Caleb said, “Give me the big mountain with the big giants”, and he was 85 years young!

You might say, “I don’t have any money, Angus. In fact, my business has closed down.”

But God has got all the silver and gold in Heaven and the mountains and the cattle as well - so that doesn’t hold any water either.

You might say, “I have been through a rough time.”

Well, do you think Gideon hadn’t been through a rough time?

How do you think he felt when he was looking at that army in front of him?

You see, if God is for us, there is no man can stand against us.

You know, we have got a saying. We put it on the back of our first publication of the book, “Faith like Potatoes,” and this is how it goes:

Difficulty is the first stage of a miracle. However, for a great miracle, the condition is not difficulty but impossibility.

Now, that is exactly what Gideon was looking at - an impossible situation, and what happened?

He got the victory. I want to encourage you today, to keep looking to God.

You know, as I talk to you now, we are steaming up a Revival Train in Cape Town.

You say, “Where is it?” I don’t know yet.

You say, “When is it?” Round about March.

You say, “Where is it going?” Well, they tell me the trains can go right up to Musina.

And then what happens? Well, there is a bridge, isn’t there? It goes over the Limpopo River and there is another bridge that goes over the Zambezi River.

How big is God? As big as you allow Him to be!

I am so full of faith this morning and I want to encourage you. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Nothing has changed in the heavenlies.

God bless you and have a wonderful day.
