Valour
“The Lord shall go forth like a mighty man.”
Isaiah 42:13
And then 1 Corinthians, Paul the Apostle says:
“Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.”
1 Corinthians 11:1
I want to speak to you this morning about being a mighty man of valour.
You know folks, God has done amazing work among Christian men and He is still busy doing it all over the whole earth. I want to say to the ladies right at the outset, Mighty Men is something that God laid on our hearts and it is not actually for men. The amazing thing is it is actually for women - That’s right!
It is to teach a man of God to be a mighty man. Now, I can hear maybe some people say, “But to be a Christian aren’t you supposed to be humble?” Yes, of course, but we are mighty in the Lord, not in our own strength. You see, the Lord Jesus Christ is the strongest, most powerful and mightiest Man who has ever walked on the face of the earth. Yet, if you look in Isaiah 42:3 it describes the Lord:
“A bruised reed He will not break,
And smoking flax, He will not quench.”
That is how gentle He is. By the way, that description is spoken about, no less than 16 times in 4 chapters of 1 Chronicles. 1 Chronicles 7, 8, 11 and 12 - you can go and look it up yourself. A mighty man of God must be selfless. He must be honourable. He must be disciplined, committed, fearless, gentle and caring. His mentor is nobody else, no one less than Jesus Christ alone. He must be humble and he must be tender. I will never forget hearing a report written by the Dominee, Jan De Wet, from the NG Church, a wonderful man of God and a personal friend of mine with a beautiful music ministry. He came to the Mighty Men Conference when we had the big tent and there were 60,000 men here.
He said as he sat in the back, he watched all these men sitting there with their arms folded. He said, "I was so glad that I was not the preacher that night..." But then he said he saw the Holy Spirit starting to move as the men started worshipping God. They started unfolding their arms, their hands went down - Then they started wiping their eyes and then they lifted their hands up to heaven and started worshipping God.
A mighty man is a man who opens the door for his wife when they go out. He pays for all the meals when they go to a restaurant - That's the mighty man we are talking about. He pulls out a chair for his wife to sit on, it doesn’t matter how long they have been married. He loves their children and he leads a godly life.
Today, I want to say to the ladies, look after your mighty men because they are taking major strain and they need you to stand with them today.
God bless you and have a wonderful day.
