The Good Shepherd
“But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.”
There are multitudes of people at the moment, all over the world, who are weary, tired, scattered and lost, just like lost sheep. You know it is so sad to see a sheep running around on its own, trying to find its way having lost the flock. I used to run sheep here on this farm and there is nothing sadder than to see a sheep that is totally lost.
Many years ago I was at agricultural college in bonny Scotland. I remember, in the middle of one semester, a certain man by the name of Macmillan - he was one of the tallest guys I have ever seen. He must have been close to 7-foot tall. He came from the west coast of Scotland, that mountainous area where those craggy peaks are. Very beautiful but very harsh.
He was given special leave from college to go back to the west coast of Scotland because he had to bring his father’s sheep down from the steep, craggy mountains, to the safety of the valleys below, where they could winter through that severe time that they have in Scotland. The sheep would lamb down in comfort in the presence of the shepherd.
Jesus is our Good Shepherd and He knows the way. We need to lead the lost sheep to Him and He will bring them back home safely. You might say: “I am not experienced, I am not a preacher, I am not a speaker.”
Maybe not, but Jesus is.
You might say, “I don’t know what to say.”
Just tell them, in a gentle, loving and compassionate way, how The Good Shepherd found you when you were lost and you felt abandoned. What the world needs today is lots of TLC - tender, loving care.
The Good Shepherd is calling this sabbath morning. He is calling for His beloved sheep today. Show folk, those who are lost, how to find Him and He will do all the necessary work.
Have a wonderful Sunday.
