In Power
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 17th of September, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
We start in 2 Chronicles 16:9:
“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.”
Then we go to 1 Corinthians 4:20:
“For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.”
Oh folks, these are serious words. It’s not just a life of talking. One translation says, “a life not only of just hot air but of power.” Another translation says, “Not just a life of impressive words”. I remember like yesterday when I was a new Christian, I was reading a Christian magazine and there was a cartoon in that magazine. I will never forget it as long as I live. It was a picture of a big fat preacher, holding a massive black Bible, and he was preaching down, pointing his finger to a skinny little boy who also had a big fat tummy, but it wasn’t because of food, and he had a little begging bowl in his hand. And the caption underneath said, “Will there be food in Heaven?” That really knocked me.
This faith of yours and mine is not just about words. It is about power in the demonstration of action. We have got to walk the talk. We have said it so many times, haven’t we? Faith is a doing word. Faith has got feet. Faith is a verb, it is not a noun, like a table!
Maybe today you need to just come aside for a little bit and say, “Lord, what can I do physically? I can’t earn my way to Heaven. I know that. I am saved by grace and not by action, but You have reminded us today, Lord, that this walk of ours is of the power of God, demonstrated through action. So today, Lord, show us who we can phone, somebody who we can visit, somebody we can just bring a little bunch of flowers, or just a little pot of honey or just a lovely book that they can read, or just a phone call to say, “You know something? I really appreciate and love you.” That might just save their lives. Today, let us not just talk. Let us act.
