Good Stewards
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name. It is Wednesday morning, 16th September 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
We start in Psalm 119:105:
”Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Then we go straight to 1 Corinthians 4:1:
”Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.”
The Lord has called you and me to be stewards for Him. A steward is a person who has been found faithful over the things of God. He or she is trustworthy, reliable, entrusted with the Word of God, being a good manager of the things of God. Oh, my dear friend, we need to really look after the Word of God. There are so many opinions of people saying this about the Bible, saying that about the Bible. You can’t just believe whatever somebody tells you, you have to back it up with Scripture.
So if he comes to you and tells you that he’s got a new revelation, you must ask him a question. “Can you show me in the Bible where it says that?” If he says, ”No, no. I can’t show you in the Bible. It’s just something that I believe the Lord has shown me,” you cannot believe it. The Bible is what we use as our gauge to steward over the things of the Lord.
I remember many years ago, going to visit a muslim in his house, he invited me in for coffee. I walked into his house, a very nice house, and we sat down in low chairs and I took my Bible with me and I put it on the carpet on the floor next to my chair. When he walked in, the first thing he said to me was, ”Please, Sir, do not leave that book on the floor. Please put that book on the coffee table.” A muslim who reveres even the word of God, and we need to do the same.
I remember going to a church and hearing the pastor, many years ago, trying to emphasise the importance of the word of God. He said, ”Take your Bibles, put them on the floor and stand on the word of God. He was just trying to make a point but it was very distasteful, standing with your boots or your shoes on top of the word of God. There are people in the persecuted countries that would give you as much as you wanted to purchase one of those Bibles, which are not available. We need to be good stewards of what God has given to us to look after, for Him and for our people, our family. Teach your child to never throw the Bible on the ground. It is not a toy. Treat it with much love and care!
