An Easy Yoke
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
What is a yoke?
Well, I looked it up in the Oxford Dictionary - It is something that is regarded as oppressive or burdensome. Every single one of us has to carry our cross but we are thankful that the Master Carpenter, the Lord Jesus Christ, has made each of ours just right to fit us perfectly. If we had to throw all our crosses into a huge pile and to select one of our own choosing we would probably pick up the very same one again.
Jesus says His yoke for us is easy and His burden light. We say sometimes, “I wish I could have that beautiful golden cross to carry, and then I would have no more financial problems, but folks, that golden cross weighs a ton!” Or we say, “I would rather have that beautiful cross with all those roses that are adorning it - until you pick it up and you find that behind those beautiful roses there are thorns which stick into your flesh.”
It is so important to select the right saddle for your horse, otherwise, he will develop saddle sores and you can’t ride him anymore.
Jesus has promised us that He will not allow us to be tempted above that which we are able. If we go to the book of 1 Corinthians and I am just going to read a very special verse to me:
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13
So today take it slowly, take it one step at a time - Don’t rush.
Jesus is walking with you and He will see you through to the end of your journey.
