Unconditional Thanksgiving

It is 5th January 2021, Tuesday morning, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for the day.

Ephesians, Chapter 5 and verse 20:

“…giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ”

Romans Chapter 8 verse 28, probably one of the most famous verses in the Bible:

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

No matter what our circumstance today, we need to give God unconditional thanksgiving, not for the situation, but for God who is in the predicament with us.

I remember reading a beautiful story about that famous evangelist, Corrie ten Boom, that Dutch lady and her sister, Betsie and her old dad, who were put in a concentration camp in the Second World War by the Nazis, for hiding Jews in the upstairs room of their little watch-making factory.

The old father died within a few weeks because of the conditions.

Betsie got sick and was also dying, in her sister, Corrie’s arms, because of the horrific conditions that hey were living in.

Corrie looked up to Heaven and she cried out to God, “Why Lord? Why?”

And then a little voice from her dying sister Betsie said, “Corrie, if you know Him, you don’t have to ask why.”

Do you know Him today my dear friend?

The Bible says that Jesus is so gentle that He will not even extinguish a smouldering flax or break a bent reed. (Matthew Chapter 12 and verse 20)

We give unconditional thanks always because of God who is in the situation.

He will turn it around for good. He always does, He always has done in my case, and in your case as well.

Let us go out today and give thanks to God for being here with us in these circumstances, with this dreaded Covid 19.

Let us get up this morning - this morning, I saw the most beautiful sunrise - I have not seen a better one for many, many years.

The sky was red and the Rain Bird was singing and the birds today were giving thanks to God for a new day.

Go out today and give thanks.

Phone a friend. Tell them, God is in control.

There is nothing to be afraid of.

God bless you and have a wonderful day.
