Without Forethought
“And Samuel said, “What have you done?”
Folks I want to say to you that impulsive decisions can cause much pain and even disaster. You see, King Saul was told to wait for the prophet, Samuel, to come and to offer up a sacrifice to God so that the Lord would strengthen King Saul and his army when he was fighting the enemy - but he did not wait. He got impatient and he became impulsive and he made the sacrifice himself.
Do you know that that, cost him his leadership completely? His kingship from that moment onwards, the anointing of God, departed from Saul.
What about you and me today?
Maybe I am talking to a young lady who is going to marry a man. Her reason is that all her friends are married and she is not married yet. That is not a good enough reason at all and it won’t work. Be patient, God has got a special man for you.
An impulsive, disobedient decision cost King Saul his leadership. Remember what we always say, “If in doubt, don’t.”
I looked up in the Oxford Dictionary the literal meaning of the word 'impulsive' - it means: "acting or done without forethought."
One thing this lockdown has done for us is it has given us time to think. We can make decisions if we can just take time out to hear from God.
You know I have seen farmers ploughing in a beautiful potential cereal crop because they did not wait for the rain to come. Everybody said, “There is a drought coming” and so they just ploughed the crop in only to find out, a few days later, that beautiful, plentiful rain would arrive - It is heartbreaking.
Remember, Jesus is always on time. He is never early, He is never late - He is always on time. You don’t believe me? Well, ask Martha and Mary. They said, "Lord if You had been here, my brother would not have died.” John 11:21.
And what happened after that? Lazarus came out of the tomb.
What about the disciples in the storm on the boat?
The boat did not sink and they did not drown, not one of them but yet in Matthew 8:25, they said: “Lord, save us. We are perishing!”
Maybe today you are feeling the same way?
“Lord, if You don’t do something, I am going to do something.” - well, that could be disastrous. One thing I have learned about the Lord Jesus Christ, in all my years, is that He does not tell lies. What He has promised, He always does.
Have a wonderful week
