We Walk By Faith

It is Monday morning, 28th December, 2020 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for the day.

If we go to the Word of God in the Second Book of Corinthians, 2 Corinthians Chapter 5 and verse 7, a very familiar scripture:

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

We cannot live this life like the proverbial yoyo. One minute we are up in the air, the next minute we are down. We have to live this life by faith alone.

Romans Chapter 1 and verse 17:

“And the just (the righteous in Christ) shall live by faith.”

You say, “But how do we receive that faith?”

Well, Romans Chapter 10 verse 17, tells us that “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.”

It is by spending time reading the Bible, by spending time in prayer.

You say, faith in what? Faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

If you want an easy memory verse, what about Mark Chapter 11 and verse 22:

“Have faith in God.”

There was a German preacher. His name was Peter Boller. He told John Wesley who was struggling with his faith, he said, “Preach faith until you have it, and then when you have it, you will preach faith.”

Faith is contagious. Right?

Wesley went all the way in a sailing ship to preach the Gospel to the Red Indians, hoping that he would find a closer walk with The Lord. And he failed miserably!

I don’t think he led a single soul to Christ.

On the sailing ship, coming back to England, the ship got caught up in a terrible storm.

The waves were crashing across the deck and he thought surely he was going to perish. He was going to drown.

He peered up onto the deck and he saw a group of German Moravians. They were holding onto the masts, moms and dads, boys and girls, and they were singing hymns and worshipping God. He had never seen such faith before in his life, and he realized that he didn’t know God.

When he went back to England, he went into London and there was a little Bible study group that he attended in Aldersgate, in London. He was sitting there quietly. He said a strange warmth came over his heart, scales fell from his eyes and he was filled with The Holy Spirit and at that moment he was born again.

You know, he then went on to be instrumental in probably one of the greatest revivals the world has ever seen. He lived until he was about 89 years old. He preached 40,000 sermons. He rode 225,000 miles, not kilometers, on horseback, preaching the Gospel because he did it by faith.

Now, let’s step out the boat today and let us start walking by faith and this whole Corona thing will just disappear, when we see the faith of God, leading us moment by moment.

God bless you and have a wonderful day!
