Boxing Day
It is Saturday, 26th December 2020, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for the day.
The most famous scripture in the whole Bible, John, Chapter 3 and verse 16, maybe you can say it with me:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
What a beautiful promise.
Today is traditionally known as Boxing Day. Boxing Day is the day that we give gifts according to tradition. Today is all about giving.
Now, if we look at the Passion Translation, this is what it says:
“For this is how much God loved the world (that is you and me ) He gave his one and only unique Son as a gift, so now everyone who believes in Him will never perish but experience everlasting life.”
Oh, you talk about giving - well, our Heavenly Father gave His only Son - He only had one Son. He gave Him to us.
What about the young lady who was betrothed to be married?
She gave up her virginity for the sake of the world - Mary.
What about the young carpenter, the up and coming businessman - Joseph.
He gave up his reputation because he married a woman who was pregnant.
What about The Holy Spirit? Oh folks, He has come down from Heaven. He is a Friend, He is an Advocate, He is a Helper.
Christmas time is all about giving but we need to be careful that we keep our priorities in order.
Mark Chapter 8 and verse 36:
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? “ (Loses his family!)
I read just yesterday about a young woman.
She was tipped to be in the top 50 up and coming evangelical leaders in the USA, and yet that same year, she failed to love, and lost the man in her life to a mutual friend, who was listening and waiting on that young man.
This lady was working so hard for the work of The Lord, that she completely missed out on what The Lord wanted her to do.
You see, she was so busy with the work of The Lord that she forgot The Lord of the work, and she lost the man in her life, the man that she loved. It broke her heart.
Be careful today that we are not giving to everybody else but our own family is suffering. Charity begins at home.
Somebody said “Hell is knowing the truth too late”. Let’s not be part of that. But Hallelujah! God is bigger than our mistakes.
We must enjoy our time at this moment and we need to love one another, to be gentle with each other and full of compassion.
God bless you as you give to your loved ones today.
