God's Protection

The Bible, I have found, is God’s protection for me against the constant waring of evil against me. His solid Word keeps me safe and sane when it looks like all hell wants to break out against me on all sides. A beautiful scripture found in Isaiah, says so reassuringly that "When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him." Isaiah 59:19 (NKJV)

Another beautiful promise found in Isaiah says, "No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgement You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord. Isaiah 54:17 (NKJV). Therefore we do not have to defend ourselves, because the Bible itself does all the talking and all the reassuring for us!

When the enemy would shoot its fiery darts at us, and accuse us of all kinds of untruths, to make us feel defeated and unworthy to be called sons and daughters of the Most High God - the Lord Jesus, the Word, constantly reassures us through scripture. For example, Romans 8:1: "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit."

What lovely words from God for us sinners. Make no mistake - none are without sin, no not even one. Romans 3:23 states quite clearly: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." So none of us can even attempt to earn or work our way to heaven, by living a good life in our strength! It is purely and unconditionally by God’s grace, His unmerited favour, that we shall enter the gates of heaven one of these fine days.

The Bible shows us this so very clearly. What a comfort to know that it is by faith alone that you and I shall be saved. This is the reason why we are to know, understand and to memorise Jesus' words so very carefully.

Remembering that this battle you and I are facing is a spiritual and not a physical one - 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, and it takes place in the mind. The devil says you will never make it, that you are a fake, a has-been, and you will ultimately lose. But the Bible says: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Philippians 4:13

We ask ourselves: "How did Jesus overcome Satan in the desert, when He was so very weak, having had nothing to eat or drink for forty days and forty nights?" Bear in mind He had just come off an incredible high - having been baptised by His cousin, John the Baptist and then heard, audibly, His Heavenly Father say these words: "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Matthew 3:17

Now, Jesus is confronted by the blatant lies of satan himself. How did the Lord defend Himself? He simply quoted scripture, yes the Bible, and the devil had no option but to flee like a scolded, defeated cat.

That is exactly how you and I must respond to the devil's accusations towards us: "It is written", and there is no other way, that is why we are to protect God’s Holy Word with our very lives if need be.

God Bless,
