Knocking On Your Heart

There was an old miller and he was too busy making money to be concerned about his spiritual well-being but this old miller got very sick, to the point of death.

He asked his family to put his bed next to the mill so that he could hear the grinding of the corn which was making the money.

A preacher came and visited him on his deathbed.

He tried to speak to him about his life after death, about his salvation, but the miller’s response was, “I can’t hear you! I can’t hear you above the deafening noise of the grinding mill.”

He could not and he did not hear The Lord Jesus knocking because the noise of making money was deafening.

Hunt With The Hounds

I heard a story, a very sad story many years ago, about a lovely young girl from a Christian home, who decided to marry a rabid, card-carrying communist - an atheist who does not even believe in God.

Her parents were devastated.

They said, “How could you do that?”

She said, “Dad, Mom,” with tears in her eyes, “He is the first man that I have ever met who actually wholeheartedly believes in what he is standing for.”

Moving Slowly

…He moved slowly. He always looked like he wasn’t doing much and I would become very agitated at times, because I am confessing my sins today, I was always running around, flat out and I would come to him and say, “Crichton please, this fence must be up by this afternoon. We are moving a herd of cattle into this field early tomorrow morning.”

He would just smile and say, “No problem.”

By knock-off time that fence, that gate, was standing beautifully straight. The wire strands were so tight you felt like you could play a tune on them.

All Hands On Deck

I remember like yesterday, It was struggling as a young farmer.

I was in the shed. I was trying to weld up a broken implement.

I am not a very good welder, and as I was trying to weld this thing, I felt somebody was standing behind me.

I stopped, I looked at my welding helmet. There was a young, handsome young farmer but he looked quite perplexed

Believers Go To Heaven

I can just imagine a CEO of a large company coming in, maybe an organisation that has been feeding tens of thousands of people, doing lots of good works, and he will have a list there, and he will tell Our Heavenly Father all the good things that he has done.

Our Heavenly Father will look down to His Son, the Defense Attorney and He will only ask one question. He will say to His Son, “Do you know this man?”

Jesus will sadly shake His head and say, “I have never heard of him before, and then the Judge will say to the prosecutor, “Take him away.”

And then an old lady will walk in…

He Is Greater

Well, a few weeks went passed, and then one night I was sound asleep with my young wife and children, and I heard cows in the garden.

I got up and I saw someone in the middle of the night, had left the gate open, and the cows were in the garden, eating Jill’s flowers.

One Miracle Equals A Thousand Sermons

I looked down in front of me. There was a man sitting in a chair with a pair of crutches and his leg was straight out in front of him.

I heard The Holy Spirit say, “Pray for him, so that I might heal him.”

I went down off the platform. I told them, “I am going to pray for this man and God is going to heal him.”

Of course I didn’t realize what the problem is. Just as well…

To Him Who Overcomes

Walt Disney was fired from his newspaper job because he lacked imagination and good ideas.

Winston Churchill was considered a dolt by one of his teachers.

Soichiro Honda was rejected by the Toyota Motor Corporation when he applied for a job, leaving him jobless until he began making scooters in his garage, and eventually founded the Honda Motor Company.

The list goes on and on.

Great Moments Often Catch Us Unaware

On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my life.

You see we're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments.

But great moments often catch us unaware - beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.

People may not remember exactly what you said or what you did but they will always remember how you made them feel.”

How Big Is God?

He turned around with a pen and he wrote on the wall, “17/11/89 - Angus.” And that was the start!

I got in my pick-up with a flask of coffee, in my farm clothes, and off I went to the town nearby called, Ladysmith, and I booked the town hall, and that was the beginning.

I want to ask you a question today.

Are you trusting God or are you trusting yourself?

Why don’t you allow The Lord today direct your path?

Live your dream. Do that thing that you are too scared to do but put your trust in Him and He will amaze you.

Do Not Neglect Your First Love

I sent out one email - that’s all - a couple of lines, “Come to the farm. We want to speak to you.”

240 men arrived in 2004.

The next year 600 men.

The next year 1060.

The next year 7,400 men arrived on Shalom Farm.

The ladies were distraught.

We were feeding the men in those days.

They had only prepared enough food for 5000 men.

Don’t Waste Time Today

I remember a lovely story that my brother told me many years ago.

He was a golf professional and he is now a preacher of the gospel.

He said there were two rookie professionals who went to the USA to try and get on the circuit.

They arrived at this prestigious golf club. They saw a senior golfer hitting…

The Lord Is With Those Who Are Broken-hearted

Well, the day arrived and I had qualified and I ran with all my heart.

My family had been seconding me and Janna, the young lady was waiting for me at the finishing line in Durban.

Well, I had 14 kms to go and I collapsed.

I passed out. I woke up in the ambulance.

I was taken to hospital. I was put on a drip and I felt totally broken-hearted and crushed.

I had let everybody down…

The Big Mountain

I have a mentor. He is 85 years old as well.

He is probably the most positive man I have ever met.

He rides his bicycle every single morning.

He swims in the great Indian Ocean everyday and whenever I phone him, before I can ask him how he is keeping, he always wants to know how things are with me and my family.

He hardly ever speaks about himself.

He has had a major heart surgery.

He has had eye surgery and lots of other things but it never ever holds him back.

After building a huge Christian school, I asked him if he was going to slow down a bit.

The answer was a definite, “no”. He is praying about building a Christian university.

You see, he has a different spirit - he is a man on a mission.

Trust In Your Heavenly Father

My second eldest son, Fergie, is a cattle man. He has two young boys and he is teaching them how to rope cattle.

They go into the field and when they find a sick animal, they lasso it. They bring it to the ground and they doctor it and then let it go, and the rest of the herd just continue grazing.

And I love to watch them do this. I cannot do this by the way. It is quite an art - but I love to see the oldest boy, Buckies, the red-head, the one you see on television - he says, “Dad, I have got this one”, and he persists in trying to rope this animal and he can’t in the end. Eventually, hot, bothered and full of flies, he stands back and then his dad gallops up and lassos that animal first time and they do it together. He is trusting in his dad and his dad is teaching him how to do it. You and I need to trust in our Heavenly Father.

The Spirit Of God Frees Us

We have got a bull. He is an Aberdeen Angus Bull. He must weigh over a ton, and he is held back from going into a field of knee-high lush grass, by a single strand of electric wire, powered by a small battery.

A little trickle of an electric current passes through that piece of wire, even a small child would not be harmed by it, and yet that one ton bull - all he needs to do is to walk straight through it and he is into a beautiful paddock of lush grass, but he is intimidated by a lie. That lie comes from the devil.

The law binds us but the Spirit of God frees us.

Sow Good Seeds

And what about that other story of an evangelist by the name of Mordecai Ham?

He was operating in the backwoods of America, preaching the Gospel.

What was he doing? He was doing good, and one night a sixteen-year-old boy, the son of a dairy farmer who wanted to become a professional baseball player, went to that meeting and he heard a feisty, fiery sermon by Mordecai Ham, and he stepped forward and gave his life to Jesus.

Who was that? That was Dr. Billy Graham, probably one of the greatest evangelists of all modern times.

What Is Truth

Remember, if you are liar, you better have a very good memory because you have to keep remembering the lies you’ve been telling, but seriously folks - I want to tell you one thing, that the devil is the father of all lies and he will hold you with his lies. He is the deceiver of the brethren.

You know that The Lord Jesus, when He was being judged by Pontius Pilate in John Chapter 18 and verse 38, Pilate said to Jesus, “What is truth?”

Isn’t that amazing. He was standing, looking at truth in the face, and He asked Him, The King of Kings, “What is truth?”

Wisdom

I went back home and I prepared the land, I bought the seed and I started to plant potatoes with no irrigation.

My neighbors were so concerned about me. “Angus, this will send you one way. You will go bankrupt.”

I said, “No, I have had a word from God”, and I planted those potatoes and I leased the farms next door and I did the same there. I planted maize and we trusted God.
