The Race of Life
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 4th of October, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
We go straight to the Book of Hebrews 12:1:
”Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”
Folks, we must be so careful that we do not disqualify ourselves. Now when I was praying early this morning, the Lord showed me the only way that I will disqualify myself from any race is when I break the rules. If you break the rules in any sport, you are automatically taken out of the race. If you are caught using illegal substances, if you are caught using drugs illegally which assist you to win, then automatically you are out of the race. I think of Lance Armstrong, a great athlete. He defied the odds. He overcame cancer and then he became one of the greatest bike riders ever. I don’t know how many times he won the Tour de France, which is the most prestigious bike ride in the world but he was caught cheating and every single one of his trophies was taken away from him. Very, very sad.
I think of some of the greatest boxers who have been disqualified. We remember the one world champion who bit the opponent in his ear! That cost him the world title. You can’t do that. Biting is illegal in boxing. What about cricket? There was a team that was caught tampering with the ball and that caused an incredible embarrassment to a nation. We need to do it correctly. We need to obey the rules.
Now I want to speak about the race of life. Yes, it’s exactly the same. No cheating, no stealing, no unfaithfulness, no lying, no bad language. We need to discipline ourselves, folks. We really do! We need to spend more time in prayer. If you are praying regularly, that will prevent you from doing illegal things because you can’t. You can’t do the two together. If you’re not having a regular quiet time you will bend the rules and it will cost you dearly. What about your mind? Be careful that you discipline your mind. Don’t watch rubbish. Don’t listen to rubbish, it will pollute you!
Remember, we are in the race of eternal life.
Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.
Goodbye.
