The Power in the Name

I greet you in Jesus’ precious Name! It is Thursday morning, the 11th of December, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in the Gospel of Matthew 16:16: 

Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Then we go to Mark 8:29:

“Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.” 

We go to Matthew 1:23

“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

It’s all in the Name. It is the most powerful Name in the universe! The only time the people wanted to stone Jesus wasn’t because he was healing the sick, raising the dead, opening blind eyes, restoring the cripples, delivering people from leprosy and all kinds of diseases. No, no! They were happy with that, but when He said, ”I am who I am.” When He said, ”I am God made flesh.” Then they wanted to stone Him and nothing has changed. Even as I am recording this message early in the morning, there are people in the world who are being martyred, not for stealing, not for murdering, not for raping, not for plundering, but because we say Jesus is God. It’s using that Name!

People are being put in jail, as I’m talking to you now, because they have been found in possession of a Bible on them. Why? Because the devil hates God and the devil hates God’s people, but the good news is, when you and I use that Name, and I’ve done it all my life, there is power in the Name. I have seen the Lord with my own eyes, and I have many witnesses of the weather changing because we pray in that Name. I have seen sick people healed because we have said, ”In the Name of Jesus Christ, be healed!” 

Today, do not be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ because that is where the power is. We are not in any way to apologise for our faith to anybody. When you use the Name God, no one is offended because God is who you presume Him to be. Maybe you worship the trees, maybe you worship some idol, some foreign god, but when you use the Name which is above every other Name, then all the demons in hell hate to hear that Name, but that is where the power is!

Today and this Christmas season, let us worship Immanuel, God with us. That little baby, in that manger in Bethlehem, came down from heaven to earth to save you and me.
