Walk in Righteousness
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 2nd of May, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
We start in 2 Corinthians 3:6:
”… for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
This is quite a serious and liberating scripture. We cannot live according to the Mosaic law. You can’t - that is why they kept offering sacrifices continually when they were in the desert. When the Holy Spirit came to earth after Jesus went to Heaven, He is the one who convicts us of walking in truth and righteousness. Now, if we look at the Book of Acts 15:24, this is what the apostles sent to the Gentiles, the Greeks, the people that were not Jews, and said to them that you do not have to obey the law, you just have to obey the commandments of God.
”Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, “You must be circumcised and keep the law”—to whom we gave no such commandment” Acts 15:24
”that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well.”
Acts 15:29
The Lord says that the Holy Spirit will convict you and me to walk in righteousness. We cannot just walk by keeping the law. We can’t do it. That’s why Jesus came down from Heaven to Earth.
Now the Westminster Confession says, I love this, this is what they say, "Man’s chief end on this earth is number one, to glorify God and number two, to enjoy Him forever.” Isn’t that so simple? You see, when you glorify God you keep the law by yourself. For example, when I got saved, the first thing I did was stop swearing. The day I gave my life to Christ, I’ve never sworn since then, the Holy Spirit convicted me. I stopped bending the rules. In other words, I stopped telling white lies. The truth is the truth, and I did it willingly. I did many things that did not glorify God, and when I met Him as Lord and Saviour, I automatically stopped doing those things.
Now today don’t put a heavy on people. Don’t make them feel guilty. Tell them to love God, and the Holy Spirit will convict them of their sins, and they will start walking in righteousness and, most of all, enjoy the presence of God forever.
Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.
Goodbye.
