Only Believe

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 22nd of June, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in the Gospel of Mark 5:36:

As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe.”

Then we go straight to 2 Timothy 1:7:

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

Remember, the people came to the ruler of the synagogue and said, ”Don’t trouble the Master anymore, your daughter is dead.” And Jesus reply was: ”Do not be afraid; only believe.” You see, the opposite of faith is fear, and the devil will put fear into your heart everytime and that’s how he kills us. He doesn’t have the power to kill us, but what he does, he tells lies and if we believe his lies, it’s his lies, my dear friend, that will kill you, nothing else.

I remember like yesterday, and if you’ve seen the movie, 'Faith Like Potatoes', you know it so well. I went down to King’s Park, a big rugby stadium, very close to us in Durban, South Africa, and we were experiencing the threat of El Nino, that horrific drought. The radios were saying don’t plant anything, only plant maize on your best fields because it’s not going to rain, and I stood on the platform that night, I was so angry with the devil. I said, ”To hell with El Nino. I’m going home to plant potatoes.” I’d never planted a potato in my life and I had no irrigation, and any farmer will tell you, you can’t plant potatoes in this country without water, without irrigation, and of course because I’d opened my mouth and I’d spoken the word of faith, I went home and I planted potatoes.

The result was a crop of potatoes, but not only potatoes. It increased my faith unbelievably. Today, believe on the promises of God and He will do the rest. Walk by faith and not by sight.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
Goodbye.
