Hearing from God
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 18th of April, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
We start in the Book of Exodus 19:3:
“And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel.”
Moses went up the mountain to hear from God. Then we go to the Gospel of Luke 6:12:
“Now it came to pass in those days that He (that’s Jesus) went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.”
People often ask me, “How do we hear from God?” It’s a good question. Jesus went up the mountain and spent the whole night in prayer so that He could hear a word from His Heavenly Father. Moses did the same. He went up Mount Sinai to hear the word from God. That is how you hear from God. First of all, by getting up early in the morning. There is an old saying, I will never forget it, it goes like this: “First the mountain and then the ministry” - not the other way around.
When we talk about the mountain, we are not talking about 5 minutes or while you are driving to work, ladies, to drop the children off at school, or gentlemen, while you are on your way to work. No, that’s not a quiet time. That is not hearing from God. We need to spend time in the presence of God, not for five minutes.
This is how we hear from God: We read our Bibles systematically, every single morning. If you are not in that habit, I would encourage you to start in the Book of Psalms. Read a portion of each psalm, every single morning, starting from Psalm Number 1. Then go straight into the New Testament, start in the Gospel of John, and start reading five or ten verses every day. Then get your little notebook and write what God has said to you. There is no abracadabra, there is no magical way of doing it. If you want to hear from God, you have to spend time with God, reading your Bible every single day, meditating and praying. Give Him time so He can speak to you.
Quieten your spirit down so that you can hear, and then God will speak to you every single day. Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.
Goodbye.
