Doing Good
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 23rd of September, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
We go straight to Isaiah 61:1. Of course, this is referring to the Lord Jesus:
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;…”
Then we go straight to the Book of Acts 10:38:
“…God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”
I want to speak to you today about doing good. There is somebody listening today who says, “Well you know, I can’t do anymore. I don’t have enough money, I am not physically strong enough, I can’t do anything.” Oh yes, you can! The main thing you can do is pray, but one man of God wrote something very beautiful, and this is what he said, “The finest of all arts is the art of doing good, and yet it is the least cultivated.” Isn’t that true? The art of doing good - we need to exercise that a little bit.
Many years ago, the Lord laid upon my heart to get small little bottles of mustard seed. My office staff know exactly what I am talking about because these precious ladies have to fill these little bottles up with mustard seed, and then we seal them, and I put them in my pocket and wherever I go and I see somebody who is looking a little bit down, a little bit anxious, I say, “Excuse me, can I give you this little gift.” And they look at this and they say, “But what is this?” And then it opens the door. I said, “You know this is a reminder for you when you are going through tough times because the Master, Jesus, said, 'If you have faith the size of one mustard seed, you can tell that mountain to move, and it must go.” They walk away with a smile on their face, knowing that if Jesus Christ is with them, there is nothing that will hold them back. Today, go and do good just like the Master did and our Lord Holy Spirit will bless you richly.
