Discernment
I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 3rd of May, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan with a thought for today.
We start in the Book of Malachi 3:18:
”Then you shall again discern between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him.”
Then we go straight to the New Testament to the Book of Matthew 7:21, Jesus says:
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.”
The Lord has given us the ability to discern good from evil, righteous from unrighteous, and we need to use our God-given senses and not be foolish. The Lord says you shall know a tree by its fruit. An apple tree does not produce oranges, and an orange tree does not produce lemons. We need to understand that.
We have got a magnificent bull on the farm here. He is a beautiful bull but very cheeky. Sometimes, when I ride Snowy, I go into that open field, and fortunately, Snowy is still very nimble and fast, but that bull watches me all the time. He doesn’t take his eyes off me, and he is dangerous. Now, I have spoken to my grandsons, my two grandsons are very good horsemen and good stockmen and I have said to my one young grandson, Nathan, “Be careful of that young bull. Don’t just wander across that field. He will charge you and he will hurt you.” We need to be very discerning.
I am also a bee-keeper. I want to say to young people today, if it is a very hot day, the sun is shining and the bees are agitated because they are working very hard, do not go and disturb them. They will hurt you. You say young man, young lady, “I can run away from them Uncle Angus”. No, you can’t, no-one, not even Usain Bolt can run away from a swarm of bees. I fear a swarm of bees more than a lion. We need to be discerning.
Then lastly, I want to say to that young lady who is going out with that boy and he keeps saying “If you don’t let me sleep with you then I am not going to be your boyfriend.” Give him the push, get rid of him, he is just using you. He does not love you. You tell that young man, “On the night that we get married, is the first night that we will love each other”, and he will soon tell you by his actions whether he loves you or whether he is trying to use you.
Let us be wise. God has given us discernment, therefore let us use that ability.
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
