Home Time
It is Thursday morning, 7th January 2021, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for the day.
If we go to the last book in the Bible, the Book of Revelation, Chapter 21 and I am reading from verse 3:
“And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
We need to start to dwell more on eternity, on our home, eternal home.
We are sojourners, we are mere travelers in this world.
Eternity is waiting for us. We need to start to bring a word in season. It is just like a spark. People are desperate for encouragement to keep on going.
Eternity lies just before us, for those who believe on The Lord Jesus Christ.
We need to speak more about home time.
Jill sent me a little saying the other day. It goes like this:
“Its okay to have a melt-down but don’t unpack and live there.”
What about you today? Are you feeling a bit down? Are you feeling a bit lost.
Angus, when is this Covid 19 thing going to stop?
When is the lockdown going to be lifted?
When can I get on with my life?
Well, we need to encourage each other to keep on keeping on.
I remember, like yesterday, taking a group of young men up the mighty Drakensberg Mountains.
They were between the ages of 15 and 18 years old, and we were going hiking for a few days.
There were about 18 of us altogether. Half way up the final path which was extremely high and very steep, we had been walking already for two days and two nights, fully laden with rucksacks.
The boys were very tired and extremely hungry. I will tell you why - because I left half of the food behind by mistake.
They started giving up. We were twenty kilometers into the mountains, away from the carpark, and we were stuck on the side of this massive path. It was starting to get late. There was an afternoon storm starting to brew.
The Lord impressed upon me to bring the boys an encouraging word. Keep on encouraging them because they were stopping. They were sitting down. They were saying, “We can’t go any further.”
They were getting afraid. They couldn’t go down. They couldn’t go up.
We were nearly at the top, and I would say to them, “Come on boys, we have another 100 metres to go, and when we get to the top, there will be a nice restaurant there and I will buy you a nice cheese burger and a litre of ice cold Coke.
Of course, there was no restaurant there but they made it to the top because of an encouraging word.
And when we came back home, back to the farm, I will never forget it. We sat on the lawn. We laughed. We teased each other.
Each boy got 2 litres of Coke and as much of the braai, the barbecue, that they could eat.
Encourage one another because eternity is just around the corner.
