A Glorious Future

It is Saturday, 10th October 2020 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan with a thought for the day.

If we go to the Book of 2 Peter, Chapter 3 and I am reading from verse 12:

“looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”

Do you remember that old hymn,

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus
and look full in His wonderful face,
and the things of the world will grow strangely dim
in the light of His glory and grace.”

Don’t look in the wrong place.

Do not allow doubt to come in.

Do not exchange your glorious inheritance for a mere bowl of lentil soup.

Genesis 25 verse 30:

Do you remember, Esau was hungry and just to satisfy his hunger, he exchanged his inheritance for a plate of lentil soup.

Don’t do that my dear friend.

Don’t throw your glorious future away for some temporal thing that will burn up anyway.

This is not a time to doubt the promises of Almighty God.

Numbers Chapter 23 and verse 19:

“God is not a man that He should lie.”

Remember, in the heat of the moment, we say things and we do things that later on we might regret.

I want to say to you, that one of the hardest times in my entire life was when my dear little nephew, Alistair Buchan, fell of the tractor that I was driving and was killed.

My brother and his dear wife were so gracious to me, I am eternally indebted to them for their comfort, but I was struggling and losing sight of eternal life.

I remember a neighbor coming over one day and saying to me, “Angus, I have come to ask you, do you have a shotgun?”

I said, “Yes, I do which I use for shooting vermin and wild pigs that were destroying my mealies.”

He said, “Can I take it for a while?”

He was concerned that maybe I was going to take my life.

I said to him, “No, I am fine. My eyes are fixed on Jesus Christ, the Author and the Perfecter of my faith.”

We are living in perilous times with Covid 19, with unrest, with farm murders, with total corruption and it just looks like there is no hope, but this is the time to lift up our eyes and realize that this life is very temporal. We are going home to be with Jesus one of these days.

Please, I implore you - do not exchange eternal life for some temporal satisfaction that will never last.

God bless you and have a wonderful day as you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.
